Temperature Dependent Suppression of Conductance in Quantum Wires: Anomalous Activation Energy from Pinning of the Band Edge

چکیده
For unpolarized electrons in a clean quantum wire, density functional theory reveals a thermally activated suppression of conductance. The activation temperature TA grows slowly (roughly quadratically) with gate voltage due to pinning of the band edge at the chemical potential. Similar results were obtained experimentally by Kristensen et al. [Phys. Rev. B62, 10950 (2000)] for the temperature dependence of the anomalous conductance plateau near 0.7 (2e/h) in a quantum point contact.

Conductance in quantum wires by three quantum dots arrays
A noninteracting quantum-dot arrays side coupled to a quantum wire is studied. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by using a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. The conductance at zero temperature develops an oscillating band with resonances and antiresonances due to constructive and destructive interference in the ballistic channel, respectively. Moreover, we have fo...

متن کاملEnergy Levels of InGaAs/GaAs Quantum Dot Lasers with Different Sizes
In this paper, we have studied the strain, band-edge, and energy levels of cubic InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) surrounded by GaAs. It is shown that overall strain value is larger in InGaAs-GaAs interfaces, as well as in smaller QDs. Also, it is proved that conduction and valence band-edges and electron-hole levels are size dependent; larger QD sizes appeared to result in the lower recombination...
متن کاملEffects of the sintering temperature on the flux-pinning mechanism and the activation energy of malic-acid doped MgB2
The flux-pinning mechanism and activation energy of 10 wt % malic acid-doped MgB2 were investigated by measuring of the critical current density and resistivity as a function of magnetic field and temperature. A crossover field, Bsb, was observed from the single vortex to the small vortex bundle pinning regime. For the sintered sample, the temperature dependence of Bsb(T) at low temperature i...

Single phase polycrystalline Gd1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7-δ samples with x=0.05 , 0.10, and 0.15 have been prepared by standard solid state reaction technique and characterized by XRD and SEM analysis. The electrical resistivity, Hall effect and magnetoresistance measurements have been on the samples. The electrical resistivity measurements indicate a reduction of transition temperature (Tc) and an incre...
